A few nights ago I decided to catch up on some episodes of Oprah that I had recorded. This turned out to be a HUGE mistake. The first was about "husbands who cheat and why". The second was people who made the news and where are they now. One of the guests included Elizabeth Smart. The last one, which I could only watch 3 minutes of, was about keeping our children safe. What little I caught was about child molesters and how they are doing horrible things to younger and younger children and posting it on the web. Then they interviewed the people who have to watch these horrible images and catch the predators. Like I said I didn't make it through much because I really couldn't stomach it.Which brings me to why I did this post. Seth has basically banned me from watching Oprah because of what it does it to me. I don't know if this is normal or not, but I can't separate myself from what I'm watching. And since I tend to watch all of my TV at night, I then can't sleep, because I'm thinking of how evil the world is and are my kids safe, and so forth. After I watched these episodes I went to Seth for reassurance and he tells me "you have to stop watching Oprah it's making you crazy". Thanks Honey, not was I was hoping for. But there is truth in what he said. Because honestly, I'm a big bag of crazy after I watch stuff like this. Especially when the subject is kids being molested. My mind goes crazy thinking up things.
I totally understand why Oprah has these shows. And there really is a lot of good information to be taken from them. It's just I can't watch it. What would work best for me is cliffs notes. If there is someone who would watch it and then tell me about it, that would be great. Any takers?
For now I think I'll have to stick with shows like "The Office" and "30 Rock".
So long for now Oprah.

I am the same way. I have banned myself from everything like that. I cannot watch the news. I figure if it is important enough, Joe will tell me.

I COMPLETELY agree with you Amy. Although, I banned Oprah awhile ago. I felt the same way. Although, I wouldn't mind getting tickets to her BIG giveaway shows! That would be sweet.

That is TOTALLY how I am--if I watch something like that I can NOT get to sleep...I lay awake thinking about it forever & ever. I never officially banned myself from watching her, but I haven't watched her for awhile either, so maybe I subconsciously did it, too! haha--I'm definitely with you on this one.
Oprah's picture came up right next to Seth's and right below your header. I thought Oprah moved in with you for a second. Thanks for the laugh!
I can't watch those kind of episodes, too creepy. She's had a lot of weird ones this new season.
I know- I have only watched a few new ones, but im just not that into it anymore, i would rather watch ellen- she's funny and upbeat!
Yikes Amy, I haven't been on your blog for a while. You've had a lot going on and a lot of great pictures. Bella looks so cute playing soccer, and you look awesome! Good job on the 10K!! That takes a lot of work.
As for Opera, I can't watch those types of things either. I leave the room when Aaron watches those real life mystery shows where they take an hour to reveal the true culprit in the murder mystery. I know that horrible stuff happens in this world, but I don't want to watch something that will freak me out. I haven't watched Opera for a while, but caught an episode the a few weeks ago with Dr. Oz. I really like him and sometimes, on Tuesdays, I'll watch it because of him.
I had that exact conversation with a friend the other day. She had stayed up to catch up and was all depressed. I'm totally with you... TV should be entertaining not keep you up at night and terrify you of the world.
I hear ya! The world is such a scary place as it is...we don't need shows that scare us even more. I agree with Sid - I watch ellen too...comedy over reality any day!

I agree! I stopped watching Oprah a while ago cause I think she is so dumb and she has stupid things to talk about!

I'm proud of you for making that decision, which may not be the easiest. It's depressing just watching the news! You'll probably be just as happy or happier with out it!
Oprah's a nut job. I agree with you and Seth. Haven't watched her for a while...besides when my old neighbor was on the other day for a bedroom makeover!! But it totally bugs me that she thinks that marriage is just a certificate and nothing else...annoying!! Anyway, I guess we just have to teach our kids well and just keep praying, huh? Haven't seen you forever. Hope you're doing well.
