Who's that knocking at my door?

It's the big 3-0!!!! That's right I'm turning 30 in a matter of days. I really don't mind. In fact I'll let everyone in on a little secret.
For the past 5 years, give or take, I've been saying I'm 30.
You're probably thinking, who would do that? Me, that's who!
Someone who has never looked her age. I can't tell you the number of times people have been baffled by my real age. They always guess much younger. We're talking high school age. Most people would take this as a compliment. Let me tell you, it is not. Especially when you've graduated from college, working with teenagers and pregnant. And people think you're the teen mom not the counselor.
Or when you're buying something at the makeup counter and the stupid sales person helps someone else, even though you were there first, and she says "oh sweetie, I'll be with you in a minute". Grrrr.
Actually a few months ago I was working on a shoot where I got to bring Bella and Claire. At least 5 different people had to comment that they couldn't believe I was the mother of these 2. I couldn't possibly be over 19.
Here is a conversation between Seth and one of the young men from youth conference last summer:
YM: You're on facebook?
Seth: Yeah
YM: I didn't know old guys were on facebook.
Seth: What? How old do you think I am?
YM: I don't know, 40?
Seth: 40! Well, how old do you think my wife is?
YM: I don't know 20?
As much as all these so called "compliments" annoy me, they will one day be nice. Which is why for the next 5 years I'll contuine saying I'm 30. If you read my confessions post, you know I lie. I just might be the only person to be 30 for 10 years.

You should take it as a compliment! I have the other problem...people have thought that Rick and I are in our mid 30's for the past 5 years! Let's plan something fun to celebrate this week!

I'm with you. I get the same thing all the time. I once had a job where the manager accused me of lying about my age and thought I had a fake id and social security card. For reals.
Some day it will be a compliment...but not anytime soon. Happy Birthday!!!

Amy, you crack me up!! Good for you for being able to pull off being 30 for TEN years!! I wish I could do that! I hope you have a great birthday next week. I agree with Marianne... we need to do something fun to celebrate!! ;)

Good for you Amy. I hated my 30th birthday. I refused to acknowledge it. In two years I'll have doubled it and I'll probably ignore that one as well. Happy Birthday!

When I was 20, working at a care center, one of the ladies thought I was 16! I was so offended. But don't you hate it when people call you "ma'am". It's usually a teenager. "Ma'am can I help you?" Ma'am? I'm a 'miss' thank you very much. Not old enough yet to be a 'ma'am'! Oh it angers me!

It seems to always happen at the hospital when you are giving birth. Everyone thinks you are underage and then are shocked when we roll in with other kids.

I swear you do look just how you did in H.S....but I know how that can get frustrating. I don't look as young as you, but I've definitly been mistaken for one of my YW and not an advisor. At least it's always a good laugh.

Happy Birthday Amy! You look great and it just means people think you have great wrinkle free skin. That is a good. Have a great 30th.

I am jealous!! Everyone thinks I am a lot older than I am. Someone in the ward thought we were older than them, and they are 36!!! BTW- Joe is 34 and I am 32, just in case you thought the same thing. See...take it as a compliment!!!
