Peer Pressure at 27?

I finally gave into peer pressure this last weekend and read Twilight. It seems like everyone I know is reading it or has read it. And after reading it I give it a "B". Don't hate me. It was a good book, I'll give it that, and I liked it, but I'm still confused about why there is so much hype behind it. At one point during the weekend Seth asked me if I was just reading it to finish it, and I have to admit that was partly true. I had a hard time getting past the vampire stuff. Maybe that's my problem. Anyway, I hope I still have friends after this blog since I can only think of 2 people who didn't like this book and they don't even read my blog. So tell me, everyone who just loves this book, is the 2nd book what really got you hooked or am I just missing something?

Maybe I have been living in the closet, but I haven't even heard of this book. Is a "B" grade worth the read?

I think so. I guess it's been on the new york times best seller list and the third one in the series is out of stock at most book stores. So someone likes it.

Amy, I have to say, I totally agree with you. I thought it was a pretty good book, and I love that the author is an LDS working mom, but I just don't get the obsession.

Mo, I'm so glad someone else agrees with me! And when I talked to Geoff the other day I hope you know I wasn't really mad, it's just we were all hoping to get to see you while you were here. But I'm sure you were way busy.

I have to say Amy, that you are the only person I've heard of that's not loved this book. Maybe it was all the anticipation and the hype. When I read it, I knew very little about it and was pretty skeptical. So it was a super fun read. But that's just it. Its a book that you can't read for depth or anything substantial. It is purely a fun/plot book where the only reason you want to read is to find out what happens. Anyway, I'm sorry you didn't like it so much. But good for you to assert your own opinion, despite what all the peer pressure tells you to do!!! :)

Kari,
I'm glad you'll still talk to me even after my post about the book. Have you ever read the Shopaholic books? They're easy reads and a little easier for me to believe than the Vampire stuff. But I'll keep ckecking your blog to see what book your reading. I'm always willing to give something new a try.

Of course I am still talking to you. You don't have to be obsessed with vampires to be my friend! :) I think you are right about the vampire thing being tough to swallow. It took me a couple hundred pages before I gave in to the vampire fantasy world and then I began WANTING the story to be real. :) Anyway, I've heard of the shopaholic books but I've never read them. I'll have to pick one up. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm always looking for good books. (BTW, I have new moon--book #2--if you want to read it!) ;)

I am sooooooooo on the same page Aims, I kinda felt like I was doing homework to finish it. I am not going to read the 2nd one, and I do feel like I will offend some peeps by saying that!! But don't feel bad we're on the same team.

thanks linds. At least now I know there are a few people like me

Woman, it's easier if you don't care about what other people think. Works for me.
